Happy Friday bloggers and crafters, and welcome to the November edition of Art Journal Friday! If you haven't played before, I post a prompt here on the last Friday of the month which runs all weekend, and we invite to use this as inspiration for some art journaling over the weekend using any medium you like. You're invited to share your piece with us over at our Ning community, where you're sure to receive lots of love for your artwork, and if you don't feel able to share by all means come on over and leave some love for someone else! Art journaling is for everyone and we would love you to come join us!
This month sees us in the middle of Thanksgiving weekend in America, and in the UK... it's the end of November! After November comes December, that particular time of year when for many of us life steps up a gear for a good couple of weeks :) Some of us enjoy the excitement and the change of pace, and some of us dread it and wait for January! ;)
Well for this month's prompt I would like to invite you to journal how you feel about the upcoming festive season; are there certain things appearing that are making you feel excited about the time to come? Or does it more fit you to create something calming to counteract the rising tide of busybusybusy which is fast approaching? Come join us this weekend and share your December anticipation! Click here to take you to our Ning community if you'd like to visit us there and share some thoughts :)
Happy journaling! Gayle xx

Happy Thanksgiving
Have a wonderful day ♥
Wednesday, November 24, 2010
Dear 2010, thank you for...
Here we are at Day 3 of our thankful challenge! Thanksgiving is right around the corner for our American friends, and for us Brits... well, it's nearly December and December means Christmas, right?? :) The Brits in-the-know will be using this week as a good excuse to keep those pumpkin based recipes going now that Halloween is well and truly over, and feeling very jealous of the long weekend that's about to hit Stateside!
This time last year I did a layout for our thankfulness challenge, and I really wanted to revisit that this year as I'm in a very different place now; I found it really inspiring to think of all the good things that have happened in the past year! For the journalling I used a prompt from Shimelle's True Stories class and went through the alphabet thinking of all the good stuff!
I used Bobunny 'A Gift of Love' 12x12 and a matching journaling spot, an assortment of Thickers and Papermania mini-alphas, Prima and Papermania flowers and some brads and a button from my stash. For the journaling I used my Dymo for the date, and then journaled on some plain luggage tags, using Inspirations alphabet stamps for the large letters (stamped with fired brick and faded jeans Distress Ink) and a Gelly Roll black pen for the rest of the writing. I also inked around the edges of the tags and page with fired brick Distress Ink, and stamped an Inkadinkado flourish onto the red card in embossing Distress Ink to create the pockets, embellishing with a few dashes of gold Stickles.
Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving from me and The Scrappy Tree :)

Being Thankful
This time of the year just seems like the perfect time to reflect on what we are thankful for and this year I decided to do a layout about what being thankful means to me.
Sunday, November 21, 2010
Thankful...yes I am!
I hope this post finds you having a beautiful morning or restful evening. My Thankful project this year focused on the number one thing I am thankful for always, without question, my family and my life. Without my family, I could not live the life I love and without the people in my life, I could not be thankful.
This year my family has had its trials and tribulations and we are ready for some peace and harmony. When you face a challenge in life, you can do one of two things, question it and wish it didn't happen or move on and take what every new day brings you. Going forward, we are eating up the new days and hoping everyone of them gets better as we live this life together, truly thankful that we have each other to lean on, to make it to the next new one.
I chose a piece that reflected my family, my hobbies and some things I hold dear to my heart, I hope you enjoy it :)
Because this project was so close to me, it also became my new favorite thing in my Art Studio, hanging above my faithful cork-board and below my dangling bottles that swing in the
door way...
Items used: 7 Gypsies tray, Art paper from Art supply warehouse, Jenni Bowlin misc., Tim Holtz misc. and other random goodness. Feel free to shoot me an email if you have questions.
Thanks for stopping by today, come back tomorrow for Julie's project.

2010- Thankful Challenge
Hi Everyone!
As our 1st anniversary comes around so does the anniversary of our very first challenge. The Thanksgiving holiday here in the states is all about being thankful for what you have but we recognize many people all over the world like to show thanks too and as it quickly approaches, we are happy to bring back our Thankful Challenge. The idea is simple, let what you are thankful for inspire you to create a project that simply reflects that. It can be anything that strikes your fancy, a photograph of your family, a mini album about the years celebrations in your life, a layout of your loved ones.
Add it here, below this post or upload it to our Scrappy Community Here by November 24th (under projects-2010-Thankful Challenge). Feel free to write a brief description of your project, how you made it and what inspired you to begin with. One person will be randomly selected to receive a little scrappy care package.
We hope you join us for the challenge, but more importantly, we hope YOU have something to feel thankful for in your life.
Thanks for all the support you have given us through the past year, we couldn’t have done it without you, so this year, we are thankful for YOU !

November Inspiration Challenge
November is a month to celebrate here at The Scrappy Tree. Not only will we be celebrating the beginning of the holiday season, but we will be celebrating our 1st Anniversary of blogging!
This month's Inspiration Challenge is taking that 1st year celebration and challenging YOU to come up with a project (card, ATC, scrapbook page, altered item, etc.) based on this image from http://www.patacakefromwimborne.com/.
When I saw this image, I was struck by the lovely color palette and the top layer of this cupcake tower. Wouldn't this be a great way to celebrate any occasion? Here's how the image inspired me:
I used October Afternoon paper because it is just a delicious shade of yellow. I pleated part of the paper to replicate the look of the top tower in the picture. I used old lace and seam binding to complete the card.
