Inspiration Monday: St. Patrick's Day twist

Hello readers! With St. Patrick's Day coming up, I thought this month's Inspiration Challenge should focus on that! I did a google search of St. Patrick's Day images and found this cute one to share with you today. For the challenge, use this image on any project and upload to our

I must admit, I was under the gun a bit to whip something up quick for this post today but I thought a tag might be pretty fun. I used green scraps for the tag base, an EK Success border punch, a black scrap, the Lucky image, KaiserCraft gemstones, and Offray ribbon to complete my tag.

Sunday, Mod Podge Funday!

Hi everyone, Happy Sunday Funday!

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend and getting some scrappy time in. Today I wanted to share a few projects I have been working on.

The first is fun and simple and would cost about $8 for you to duplicate. I started with a bare wood Eiffel Tower from Michaels. I think it ran about $4.99 but they have many different things to choose from, ranging from $1- $6.

I started with a layer of black gesso, 1 8 x 8 sheet of the 7 Gypsies Lillie paper and their acrylic travel stamps. I painted the tower first and while it was drying, I stamped the label images (using an ink dye, so it wouldn't run when the Mod Podge was applied) onto the 8x8 sheet of paper. I waited briefly for the ink to dry, cut the labels up and started to lay them down where they seemed to fit shape and design wise. * Note, when using Mod Podge, remember to use it under and over to get a good seal and to protect your image completely.


The thing I like about this is you can do this with your real stubs or tickets or other things you may collect while on a trip and really get to appreciate them in a piece that may just hang out in your house and remind you of your fun time. As I mentioned you can choose from lots of different bare wood items from frames to memory boxes.







Next up, my tribute to Gayle's St. David's Day Challenge, if you haven't seen, check it out here, she found some cool little goodies for the prize! The challenge was to create a project using green and yellow, two of my favs!




I went with an altered canvas, about 8x11". I started with a beautiful piece of pattern paper. I knew I wanted to do a few flowers, so I decided to use some embroidering floss as the flower stems and did that first before I got out the handy Mod Podge (of course) adding a full layer above and below the PP to attach it to the canvas. I Let it dry then added my embellishments. I cut out a few flowers, added some doodling, some rub-on's, dangle ball ribbon, a few butterflies out of book text, and tried a few painting texture techniques.


Here you can see the Bubble wrap I used to add some dimension as well as a roller stamp in another shade of yellow for more texture and shading. I doodled on the flowers and butterflies to add more interest to them and to tie them into the black rub-on's I used at the bottom of the piece.


This is a good shot of the screen technique, where I brushed on a layer of green craft paint, rested a small screen on the paint while it was drying but picked it up before it stuck permanently, instant circle design!

Resolution Tag Book March

Remember the Resolution Tag Book Gayle made Here? Resolutions are so easy to forget as the months go by, that is why I liked her project and decided to make my own.
My book is small because I only have four resolutions.

The home of my book is this 7 Gypsies Match Box that I decorated using Chatterbox paper and embellishments.

Weekend Getaways; is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and I am hoping to save enough and accomplish at least two this year.

Minimize Multitasking; multitasking is something I used to be proud of, until I started to get very forgetful, I read that when you multitask your attention is divided and that causes short term memory and stress. As women, we do so much that multitasking is a MUST in our daily life, so I am not saying I am going to stop, I’m just going to try to do less of it.

Minimalistic Habits; Last year my husband and I moved from a 2 bedroom to a one bedroom apartment, for that reason I had to get rid of a lot of stuff we barely or never used. Because of our new small space when I go to the store before I buy something instead of asking myself “do I really need this” I wonder “where am I going to put this”. In a few months we’ll be moving again to a bigger apartment, and I really like my new forced lifestyle of not buying unnecessary things, if I am able to accomplish this, because of the savings I’ll be able to make my first resolution a reality ;)

Emotional Healing; this is the most important of all my resolutions, and it is one that I’ve already been working on.

Twinchie Fun!

Just a little fun post to share with you today about Twinchies. I whipped these up as a little something to slip in with my daughter's lunch. She loves little handmade notes and surprises.

I used some Coffee Shop Glimmer Mist on this twinchie. Then I cut a kraft scrap and used my Fiskars border punch on it. Then I used my Yes Paste to adhere it to my pink base. I found these cute little stickers in the dollar bin at JoAnn's.

My daughter loves butterflies so I made sure to use one on this twinchie. The paper scrap with the butterfly is from Prima. The stamped butterfly is from Stampin Up! I cut it out and popped it out using foam squares and I added a little dot of Stickles for a bit of sparkle!

My final twinchie is a shabby chic little goodie that I'm sure make my little girl smile. I used some paper scraps from Hobby Lobby and a Prima flower with a blue brad.

I am hoping my little girl will like a little hello note from me in her lunch on the back of one of these!

Using Stamping on your layouts

I'm an avid rubber stamper and I definitely stamp more than I create layouts, but I really like to combine my love of stamping with my layouts and it is a really simple thing that you can do also!





I made this layout of my two girls on one of their lovey moments. I had just gotten some new Papertrey Ink stamps and I thought they would be perfect for this layout.

Layering stamped images can really add some punch to your layout. Below is a close up of a banner I stamped. I added the title "Sisters" with Thickers.

As we move into our third month of the year, The Scrappy Tree wanted to do something special for all of our supporters and fans. We've already had a busy year so far and are planning more fun to come but we know we can't do it without you. Happy St David's Day!

The Scrappy Tree would like to wish you a very happy St David's Day! St David is the patron saint of Wales, and on March 1st every year, this is celebrated across Wales; children at school wear the national costume, and many people wear a daffodil or a (fake!) leek, as these are both Welsh national symbols.

As you may know, one of the Scrappy Tree team lives in Wales, so we thought we would offer you a chance to experience a bit of Wales for yourself! Create a project of your choice using the colours yellow and green (representing the colours of the daffodil) and upload a picture to our Scrappy site here. The competition will close on 14th March and we'll announce the winner on the 15th!

You'll win the items shown:- two Welsh recipe books (one sweet, one savoury), some Welsh tea, a Wales mug, a Welsh dragon (a red dragon appears on the Welsh flag), a felt leek, a lovespoon (these were originally carved and given as a gift to a sweetheart; the symbols represent different sentiments) and not shown here we'll also include some Welshcakes for you to enjoy with a nice mug of tea!
