An Autumn Tag

For today's project we decided to have some fun with some autumn themed tags, made by Kristin and Gayle on the design team.

Kristin made these first two beautiful tags with the addition of some fabric and lace and the aid of a sewing machine. Added some lovely ribbon and some cute embellies and voila! Thanksgiving tags!

Gayle's tag was made as a thank you to the generous friend who provided the image. She hasn't seen it yet so we won't name her at this point but hopefully by Thanksgiving weekend she will know who she is!
Working on a large tag from K&Co, Gayle layered lace, ribbon, and paper, plus some acetate, ribbon, buttons and flowers.

Getting in the Thanksgiving mood yet? Check back later this week for the results of the Thankfulness challenge! If you haven't entered yet it's not too late - e-mail a few pics of your project (anything you want to make themed around what you are thankful for this year) to thescrappytree@hotmail.com by midnight on Tuesday 24th November. Looking forward to seeing your work!

Autumn Inspiration

Today's guest designer Michelle Unruh(mommapaparazzi) has given us some autumn inspiration with some stunning photos and an amazing layout! Tell us about yourself Michelle...

"Hi!! My name is Michelle. I am married to a great, but goofball guy that puts up with my serious scrappy addiction. I am a mom of three that are almost 10 years apart, ages 21, 11 and 2. They are the subject of my pages. I have been scrapbooking a long time, but wasn’t really, really into it until a few years ago. Which is a bad thing… cuz my stash has grown!! I started out as a Creative Memories consultant and sold that until not too long ago.

The current project I am excited about is finishing up last year’s and this year’s album, before we get into the new year (I hope!). I used to do a lot of cross stitching, but once I really was into scrapping, that kind of went by the wayside. I love photography. I love being outside. I would much prefer to be outside doing yard work, than being stuck in the house. I drive over the border a lot to go shopping because living where I do, there isn’t much here. Favorite scrap store and it is also the closest (and it is 20 miles away), is Archiver’s. The place I find the most peace is my home (when the kids aren’t acting up) otherwise then it is my scrap room to escape from them!!

I have a blog called Happenings On This Side Of The River, and I also have a gallery at scrapbook.com. When scrapping, I have to have a coke, and I always have candy in my scrap room. As far as websites, I like the sketch blogs. I also try to keep up on my online friends’ blogs. I use scrapbook.com mainly, and once in a great while just love to browse Two Peas In A Bucket. I also really enjoy scrapbookdeals4u.com. My favourite scrappy magazines are Scrapbook, Etc and Creating Keepsakes.

Thank you so much for asking me to be a guest!! I am truly honored."

To see some more of Michelle's beautiful pictures please click here.

Michelle also produced a gorgeous layout with a thanksgiving theme, and was kind enough to write a few words about it for us:-

"With Thanksgiving being this month, it was a great time to do something near and dear to me, a page about my family. We are not always good about letting the people closest to us know how much they mean to us. So, I took this as an opportunity to do a page about being thankful for my family. This photo was taken last month at the apple orchard and what made it one of the best days was that my oldest actually came with. She is out on her own now. So, we don't see her as much as we'd like to. It was so great to do something as a whole family.

My project was created using a kit from Scrapbook Deals 4 U. You can find them here. I used one of November's kit, Simple Pleasures. This kit was chocked full of 3 Bugs in a Rug Simple Pleasures line, as well as some Prima and so many other embellishments, up to and including my favorite letters... Thickers!!! I love that the patterned paper was double sided. I used some of the 3 Bugs die cut shapes and cardstock stickers that came with it. I also used Making Memories - notebook journal page, My Little Shoe Box - Whoo Loves You Overlay, Prima - Say It In Pearls (might I say, I LOVE these!!!). The ribbon and flowers were also in the kit, but I am not sure which manufacturer they came from. Everything I used was in my kit. I also used a sketch of Ginger Williams. It was really fun to make. I used some products I have never used before, and was able to create a page that I am very happy with of and for my family."

If you love Michelle's photos and scrapbooking as much as we do, please check out her autumn photos on The Scrappy Tree forum, and visit her blog and gallery for some inspiration of your own!

And the WINNER is...

And the WINNER is Jean! Congratulations Jean, you were the closest at 219. The total number was 244. Please send your information to thescrappytree@hotmail.com.

Welcome to The Scrappy Tree!

Welcome to The Scrappy Tree! This is it, the day we’ve been waiting for, the launch of our blog! We want to bring you a little of each side of the pond, and this month we are going Stateside with our Autumn theme - Thanksgiving.

To kick things off, our design team have each posted a project themed around being thankful.

KRISTIN’S PROJECT

Hi, my name is Kristin and I am so excited to be sharing my first project with everyone. I chose some of my favorite family memories as what I am most thankful for this year. Maybe because Alzheimer’s has touched my life in so many ways, I began to think that one day, those memories may fade for me too, and what better way to keep sharing these precious memories with generation after generation in our family than to write them down.

My project is a lovely chipboard box with rectangle shaped cardboard cards inside, that I purchased from here: The Little Pink Studio , check it out if you love vintage! I covered the box in two colors of Distress crackle paint by Ranger, gave it a rock candy glaze, also by Ranger and inked all the edges. The inside cards are each covered in Little Yellow Bicycle pattern paper from the Traveler series and embellished with S.E.I. accents from the Moravia lines that matched perfectly. You may also spot some Tim Holtz embellishments. Enjoy looking, I had a blast making it, see you soon with more exciting projects, feel free to email me at thescrappytree@hotmail.com for more details or if you have any questions.

And a British take on being thankful this year…

GAYLE’S PROJECT

Hello! My name is Gayle and I live in Wales in the UK. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Britain but I was excited to have the chance to make a project around this theme because it’s a great reason to reflect on what I am thankful for in my life.

I decided to scrap a page about a topic particularly close to my heart at the moment; myself and my fiancé will be giving up our own home for a while in the near future and we are being taken in by some very kind family members! I made this page to remind myself to be thankful that wherever I am is home as long as my loved ones are there.

The paper used for this project comes from a kit by Scrapagogo, which also provided the very lovely gold Thickers (Jewelry Box) at the top of the page, the Webster’s vintage olive trim and the Maya Road red velvet rik rak. The papers that appear here from the kit are Collage Press’ Knave of Hearts Doubletake ‘Summer’s Day’ and ‘Loveable’, and also Dollop Die Cut ‘Dreamy’, plus Cosmo Cricket Early Bird ‘Sunrise’.

The buttons and flowers are from my personal stash, and the blue felt die cut is from an Anna Griffin kit. I used Papermania pearls and jewels to accent parts of the LO and bling it up a little!

And last but certainly not least, introducing our newest design team member, Julie Boeck.

JULIE’S PROJECT

Hi, it’s Julie and I had this idea for a mini album to show some of the things I am thankful for. The album is from a dollar store. The paper is Making Memories Autumn Splendor and All Fall from Fancy Pants. Lace from personal stash, as are buttons. I used a label maker punch from McGill. Prima flowers, Stampin Up brads and an unknown piece of chipboard with Crackle paint make up the front cover of the book.

And now it’s your turn! We invite you to take part in our opening challenge for Thanksgiving – send us a picture of a project using any medium you like which shows what you are thankful for this year. The winner will be announced on Thanksgiving (November 26th) and will receive a prize from The Scrappy Tree.
Please send:

• One photo of your finished project as a whole.

Introductions

Introducing design team member Julie Boeck, wife, mom of three, daycare provider and crafter extraordinaire! Tell us about yourself Julie….

“I began scrapping in 2000 when my son was a baby. I was not a serious scrapper until 3 years ago when I really began to create everyday. I love crafting for the creative release it gives me. I have to create every day to be sane. Crafting is just a part of me. I really enjoy card making mini albums and I love to use vintage patterns on cards.

I am currently working on a Halloween mini album and I can't wait to finish it. I just love mini albums!!

I must have at least 1 Diet Coke while I scrap! I also love to scrap while watching either Bones or Supernatural on DVD!

I find the most peace while up in my scrappy room, but my favourite place nearby is Ida Lake; it is a beautiful spot to sit and relax.

I love to read mystery thrillers and I enjoy spending time with my kids.

Secret talent? I can write with my right foot!”
