Tags, tags, tags

Hello Scrappy Tree people, happy Saturday!  Welcome to the weekend :)

I had a bit of a mad run on tags recently and thought I would share a few of them in today's post (yes there are a few more, as I said I did go a bit mad!).

With this first tag, I've recently been enjoying using a lot of layering and vintage images and this tag ties in with that really.  There's also some stamping, some white acrylic paint and lots of embellishments.

I am a bit of a messy crafter and love anything inky so really enjoyed making these two!  I stamped the main images with black and brown StazOn ink and just sponged on some distress ink in different colours.  I added some white pen, some pearls and some Stickles to accent some parts of the tag too.

Here's hoping you have a great weekend full of crafting!  I am off to visit Wendy Gale and Hels Sheridan for some more inky fun at The Stamp Attic tomorrow, can't wait!

Happy scrapping!

National Craft Month

So March is National Craft Month in the US, and it's a great time to expand your stash of craft supplies and to try some new things because a lot of manufacturers, sellers and other crafty types will be putting together some special offers this month!

Here at The Scrappy Tree we'd like to try this out on a smaller scale, so we're inviting you to take part in a March Spring Clean!  It's time to get organised and sort out those scrappy supplies to make room for some new ones, so if you'd like to swap or sell some scrappy items you no longer want/need/have room for, we'll be opening up an album on our Facebook branch where you can post some pictures of your items and hopefully make contact with another group member who could use them!

To take part, visit the March Spring Clean album at The Scrappy Tree Facebook Branch and upload some photos of your items with a description, specifying whether you prefer to sell and/or swap.  If you see items you're interested in, please leave a comment under that picture in the album or contact the person directly to let them know!

Happy Spring Cleaning!  We'll be keeping the album open for the month of March, so hopefully people will join in and get some great items!

Tin Container Magnet Board

Hello, Diana here with another Pinterest Inspiration project.

This is my Tin Container Magnet Board, it is above my desk and it holds the tools I use more often.

And here is the inspiration, I pinned it 35 weeks ago from Stephanie Howells blog, she pinned it from Martha Stewart's web page; isn't Pinterest wonderful :)

And now the steps on how I made it. I got a bunch of picture frames at different thrift stores, the one I used for this project was already white and in great condition so it did not need to be painted, I used the rest for a project I'll show you in a future blog post.

I asked my husband to get me a sheet of metal; using the glass from the picture frames I traced the shapes with a black marker. I got some help from Sammy ;)

If you are wondering where to get this kind of sheet metal my husband told me you can buy an 8'X4' piece (this is the smallest piece and the cost can be 10-20dls) at any heating and cooling supply store, or even better they might have some scraps to give away for free.

Once the shape was cut out I put it in the frame.

I bought the tins on Etsy, there are a lot of sellers for this kind of product, I just wrote Vintage Metal Tin in the search box and a huge list came up.

I attached the magnets to the back of the tins with foam dots. You can buy the magnets at any hobby store, they have all kind of sizes and shapes.

Here is a close up of the top part.

And the bottom part.

I'll be back with more Pinterest inspiration, have a great day.

Artist ATC

The piece I'd like to share with you today is an ATC (or Artist Trading Card) which I made recently when I was on a roll with some card-making and didn't quite feel like I was done! Scrappy mojo isn't always obliging so you've got to make the most of it ;)

I started by layering some paper scraps onto the ATC card (a piece of card measuring 2.5" by 3.5") and sponging on red, orange and yellow ink, concentrating the darker colours toward the edges of the card.

I added some stamped script and cogs and a caption using black and brown StazOn ink and added the clock face rub-ons by Kaisercraft.

I added some gold Stickles to the clock faces and cog for sparkle, and outlined the whole card using a black Posca pen.

Traditionally ATC's are made for swapping so I'll have to find myself a swap to take part in!

Happy scrapping :-)

Layout in Pocket Page Protectors

Hi, Diana here, I bought some We R Memory Keepers pocket page protectors a while back with the intentions of using them for my layouts, I really did not know where to start, but with all the amazing Project Life pages out there I now have a clear idea; I am not doing project life, but I'll join in the fun making layouts :)

I'll be combining regular 8.5X11 pages on most of my layouts, this one is based on a Sketch from KP's Sketchpad class.

For this part I did not use a sketch, but I did add the half circle to make it coordinate with the first page; making these 3 little layouts was very simple, it really takes the pressure off figuring up a design, and they are great for adding the journaling and extra memorabilia without the worry of making the page look crowded.

Here is my layout inside the page protectors.

As always I hope you got some inspiration from today's post, till next time.

Collage cards

This week I have some collage style cards to share with you - this is a great way of using up leftover scraps of paper, especially if you can use a common colour to pull it all together.

For the first card I used a Tim Holtz die cut candlebra layered on top of a doily and some scraps of papers, with some tissue tape and a few small oddments from my stash.  I wanted to use white/cream with browns and reds here.

For the second card I used cream and green with some orange accents; I also stamped some swirls in gold ink on both cards as this seemed to fill out the background a little more.
I am very much loving butterflies on my cards at the moment!  It seems to add a little something extra that they stand out from the page like they just fluttered out of a book and onto the card :)

Happy scrapping everyone!

Photo Heart

Hello, Diana here, first an apology for not having a Mini Album tutorial this month, but I hope I can make it up to you sharing the steps to make a Photo Heart on a 12X12 page.

I bet most of you have seen this image or something similar, it caught my eye right away and I saved it in one of my Pinterest boards. I decided to make a smaller 12"X12" size.

Source: Pinterest

You'll need a total of 53 one inch photos, I printed my selected photos as an Index page and used a 1" Square puncher.

To position your first square measure 1-1/2" from the bottom to top and center it (5-1/2" from left to right)

The  Rows should be like this:
1 - 1 pic
2 - 3 pics
3 - 5 pics
4- 6 pics
5 - 8 pics
6 - 9 pics
7 - 9 pics
8 - 4 pics from Left to Right and 4 pics from Right to Left
9 - 2 pics from Left to Right and 2 pics from Right to Left

For the rows that are off like row #4, measure 1/2" and mark it so you know exactly where to place the first photo.

This would look great on a layout or as decoration.

And there you have it, a Heart made out of Photos.

I hope you all have a great day, till next time.

Be mine Valentine!

Today my project is a tag that I was playing around with for Valentine's Day (yes we're nearly there folks, don't forget your sweetheart on Tuesday!).

I sandwiched an acetate image from Crafty Individuals between two glass slides along with the caption (stamped letters which I cut out and stuck down with Glossy Accents) and put them into a memory frame; I then decorated a manila tag, keeping in mind the central placement for the slide and inked it with Fired Brick Distress Ink, Poppy Red Impress ink, gold pigment ink and black and brown StazOn.  I added some red ribbon and black lace to attach the slides to the tag.

Happy Valentine's everyone! Happy scrapping and have a great weekend!
