Wanting to wish you all happy St David's Day from The Scrappy Tree! March 1st is the day of the patron saint of Wales, Dewi Sant (St David).
For the benefit of Scrappy Tree-ers living outside the UK, many Welsh people feel that this should be a national holiday, but until the prime minister gives it the thumbs up, today is mainly celebrated by wearing the Welsh symbols of daffodils and leeks (often not real ones!) and in the schools, the children dress up in traditional Welsh costume and take part in Welsh language music festivals. Cawl (Welsh stew) and Welsh cakes are eaten all year round, but are well known as Welsh dishes. Check out Wikipedia for some more information!
I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in our first Art Journal Friday challenge over the weekend - we had a great response and I'm grateful to everyone for sharing their work! If you want to see the amazing pages that were created this weekend, visit the Art Journal Friday group at our Ning site.
Our next Art Journal Friday will be on the 26th March, hope to see you there!
Gayle
